Sunday's Vikings-Falcons game is expected to feature two of the NFL's best running backs, one of whom is a future Hall of Fame player and one who has burst onto the scene almost out of nowhere.

Devonta Freeman of Atlanta and Adrian Peterson of Minnesota are expected to lead their teams into Sunday's Vikings-Falcons game. FOX will have the regional broadcast beginning at 1 p.m. Eastern from the Georgia Dome. However, Freeman's status for the Vikings-Falcons game is up in the air after he had to leave last Sunday's game against the Colts with concussion like symptoms.

As a rusher and receiver, Freeman has collected 1,184 total yards this season and 11 touchdowns, despite having 20 or more touches in only six of Atlanta's 10 games. The second-year player out of Florida State played sparingly last season.

Peterson's return from suspension this season has fueled Minnesota to a strong start to 2015, winning five straight games from mid-October to mid-November. But Minnesota had some of its momentum sapped last Sunday with a 30-13 home loss to rival Green Bay, dropping the Vikings to 7-3 on the season. Peterson had his second-lowest rushing output of the season against Green Bay, managing only 45 yards, but that number still put him over the 1,000-yard mark for the season at 1,006 with six touchdowns. He had rushed for 431 yards in Minnesota's three previous games.

Atlanta started the season 5-0, but it has gone just 1-4 the last five games entering the Vikings-Falcons game, including losing its last three games – two of which were at home – by a combined 7 points. Atlanta's offense clicked through the first four weeks, when the Falcons were 4-0 ATS and scored 137 points (34.25 average). Over the past six games the Falcons are 0-6 ATS and have scored 113 total points (18.8 average).

Minnesota defeated Atlanta last season, 41-28, in Minneapolis. Freeman had two carries for eight yards in last season's Vikings-Falcons game, while Peterson did not play as he was suspended last season.

The road team has won five of the last nine games in the Vikings-Falcons series, which Minnesota leads all-time, 17-11. The Vikings have won four of their last six trips to Atlanta.
