While Patriots-Broncos games date back to 1960 and the days of the AFL, it has been the last few meetings featuring quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Tom Brady that have highlighted the NFL schedule recently.

So NFL fans certainly have been looking forward to the Sunday Night Football Patriots-Broncos game, which NBC will televise from Mile High in Denver at 8:30 p.m. Eastern, especially with Manning nearing the end of his career, meaning fans don't know how many more Manning-Brady matchups remain.

Unfortunately Manning's status for the SNF Patriots-Broncos contest is up in the air, as he is battling various injuries. Manning was inactive for Denver's game last Sunday at Chicago.

Manning and Brady have squared off 15 times in their careers, including four times in Patriots-Broncos games and 11 times when Manning was with the Colts. Four of those 15 games have been in the playoffs. Brady has won 11 of the games overall and three of the four in Patriots-Broncos games. But Manning and the Broncos won the in the most recent postseason game after the 2013 season, 26-16.

Both the Patriots and Broncos opened the 2015 NFL season in strong fashion, but while Denver faded a bit in the middle portion of the schedule, New England has continued strong. The Patriots will enter the Monday Night Football game at home against Buffalo with a perfect 9-0 record before they make the trip to Denver for Sunday Night Football.

Denver opened the season 7-0, giving fans hope for a match of a pair of unbeaten teams in the Patriots-Broncos game. But Denver lost back to back games as a favorite, falling 27-24 at Indianapolis and 29-13 at home against Kansas City, and Manning was benched against the Chiefs because of ineffective play. Manning's 18th NFL season has been a frustrating one personally, as he has 17 interceptions against just nine TD passes.

Brock Osweiler started for Denver against the Bears last Sunday and had a solid showing in Denver's 17-15 win, which broke the two-game losing streak. Osweiler threw for 250 yards and two scores, while Ronnie Hillman had 102 yards rushing for Denver.

Denver leads the all-time Patriots-Broncos series, 28-21, but New England has won five of the past six meetings.
