DATE – Sunday Dec. 20
TIME – 1 p.m. Eastern
The NFL’s last undefeated team will travel to play the NFL team that ended one of the most well-known undefeated seasons of late in Sunday’s Panthers-Giants contest.
The Carolina-New York Giants game will kick off from MetLife Stadium in New Jersey at 1 p.m. Eastern with a regional TV broadcast on FOX.
Carolina has posted a 13-0 record this season and has won 17 consecutive regular season games over two seasons, as the Panthers look to become just the fifth NFL team to complete the regular season with an undefeated and untied record in league history and only the third since World War II.
However, Carolina has drawn a tough road opponent in the Panthers-Giants game Sunday. New York ruined New England’s perfect season in 2007, defeating the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. New England was attempting to join 1972 Miami as the only teams to complete the regular season and playoffs undefeated and untied.
The quest for an undefeated season is one of the last regular season goals for the Panthers to try to complete heading into the Carolina-New York Giants game. Carolina has already locked up the NFC South Division title and a first-round NFC playoff bye, and it is closing in on the best record in the NFC. Carolina’s offense has really begun clicking of late, as the Panthers have recorded at least 33 points in each of their past four games, and they’ve had their three highest single-game point totals in the past four weeks. If Carolina can win at New York, the Panthers will finish at fading Atlanta and at home against sub-.500 Tampa Bay.
The Giants meanwhile have been a disappointing mess entering the final few weeks of the NFL season. New York was just 5-7 before its Monday Night Football game against Miami, but that record was good enough for a first-place tie in the woeful NFC East Division. So the Panthers-Giants game will have significant playoff implications for New York. After hosting Carolina, New York will play at Minnesota and at home against Philadelphia.
Carolina is 5-0 outright and 4-1 ATS this season as a road favorite entering the Panthers-Giants game.
The Panthers lead the all-time Carolina-New York Giants series, 5-4, and the teams have split their last four meetings overall and their last four meetings at New York.
