Those who enjoy the days of the best AFL matchups will want to check out the late game on CBS Sunday when the Jets and Raiders renew their long-standing rivalry.

The Jets-Raiders game will kick off from the Coliseum at 4:05 p.m. Eastern Sunday. With the grass playing surface and the now covered dirt baseball playing surface, it might be easy to think back to the 1960s to old Jets-Raiders contests. Each team claimed one AFL title before the merger with the NFL.

Oakland leads the all-time Jets-Raiders series, 23-19-2. New York defeated Oakland in the 1968 AFL Championship Game, 27-23, but it was the regular-season Jets-Raiders game that is probably more well-known. New York led by three late in the game when NBC broke away from the long-running game to begin airing the movie, Heidi, at its scheduled 7 p.m. start time on the East Coast. After the AFL broadcast was stopped, the Raiders scored a pair of touchdowns in a 9-second span to win 43-32, a finish that Jets fans didnt get to see on the East Coast. The Heidi Game may be responsible for vast changes in the way TV networks now handle sports broadcasts.

In 2015 both the Jets and Raiders have played a bit better than perhaps was expected in the preseason. New York is off to a 4-2 start, including collecting a pair of road wins. New Yorks only loss on the road this season came last Sunday, when they fell at undefeated New England, 30-23. If New York can win the Jets-Raiders game, they could be poised to go on a nice run, as the remainder of their November schedule will include three of four home games and no contests against teams above .500 currently.

Oakland is off to a 3-3 start, which is much better than expected, as the three wins before Halloween match the three wins Oakland recorded in the entire 2014 season. The Raiders have not finished better than .500 in a season since the 2002 season, which ended with a Super Bowl loss to Tampa Bay. New Oakland Coach Jack Del Rio is the ninth Raiders head coach since that Super Bowl loss. In the 12 seasons since that Super Bowl appearance, Oakland has managed to win more than five games only twice.

Two of the three Raiders losses this season have come against undefeated Cincinnati and Denver. They also have put up big offensive numbers in wins against Baltimore (37-33) and San Diego (37-29). Oakland starting quarterback Derek Carr has been pretty strong in his second NFL season out of Fresno State, posting two 300-yard passing games and throwing 11 touchdowns against three interceptions.
